Summer, the season of growth and harvest has ended. It is a time when our nights grow longer and the winds of change come howling at our doors. We prepare for the season of fall where the remains of our crops fade into the soil to return from whence they came. All around us leaves change into beautiful colors of orange and red as we loose them to the call of autumn. The days grow shorter and the air becomes cooler with each moment that passes. Squirrels scurry about gathering up food as they prepare for the eventual arrival of winter. They know it is time. With the fall season comes a quieting of our activities, a slowing down. For some the change from light back into darkness can be unsettling even downright depressing. Many of us slowly begin the migration inward …inward to gather our thoughts and reflect, to prepare for the up coming holiday season, a season that can be full of great love and joy or as many of us have witnessed, it can also deliver chaos and disruption. Just as the squirrel gathers food the season ahead, we must as well plan ahead. Now is our time to notice and take note of how we want the up coming Holiday season to look and feel like.
The earth is preparing for the autumnal season and we must as well. We bring projects to closure and prepare ourselves for the eventual arrival of the winter season. Staying connected with the seasons of the earth, the rhythms of life is one of the many ways we are naturally able to keep balance in our lives. Awareness of the seasons of change better enables to remain grounded and centered. Being mindful of the changes going on around us enables us to keep our stress levels low. Not paying attention, being unaware feeds into the feeling of being out of control which can add to any stress you might already have in your life.
As Halloween, the Celtic New Year approaches, we are reminded that not only is it a time of costumes and candy, but it is a time of honoring death as well. What inside you has died? Have you let it go or do you continue to hold on? Is a time to let go and release the energies that hold you back, a time to let them die? The quieting down of the year allows us the opportunity for reflection, a time to go within. It is a time for connection with ourselves. Connection continues with the celebration of Thanksgiving. It is a wonderful moment where we can come together without the worries of the Holidays to come; where we can deepen and enhance our relationships with friends and loved ones. Thanksgiving gives us permission to celebrate, to be thankful for all we have. It is a delicious time of year indeed. Look around and notice what is in your life and rejoice, for no matter who you are or where you are in your life’s journey, we all having something to celebrate regardless of how big or small it might be. Every moment can be a moment for celebration and celebrating is a wonderful way to reduce the stress in anyone’s life.Connection with self and others is a most helpful way for us all to enhance the quality of our life. This is the time to come together and celebrate our bounties as we carry on in our exploration of life, to take time to reflect and give thanks for our accomplishments. Living a stress-less life brings us one step closer to having the life we were meant to live. May this Fall Equinox bring you nourishment and serenity to your soul. |
